You are a 16 year old school leaver.
If you are 16 you will have finished your compulsory education and be free to leave school. You can join the chemical industry at this point and would probably be taken on as a trainee or apprentice. There is a variety of training schemes operated in the chemical industry:

National Traineeships - these are sponsored by the government but run by companies and are available to all people entering work at the age of 16. These schemes guarantee that you will be given the opportunity to achieve NVQ Level 2. NVQs are very useful stepping stones for building your career within the chemical industry.

Modern Apprenticeships - these are also available to 16 year old school leavers. In the chemical industry, these would normally focus on the more technical jobs but also apply to some of the support functions required by the industry.

Full time college courses sponsored by your employer - some employers are willing to sponsor employees through college for a BTEC National, GNVQ, or similar qualification. While less usual than other routes for people at this stage, some employers are willing to sponsor those they consider to be the right candidates.
