| You
are an 18 year old school leaver. If you are 18 and have stayed at school or college to take A levels, AS levels or Highers, then you could join the chemical industry. There is a variety of training schemes operated in the chemical industry: National Traineeships - these are sponsored by the government but run by companies and are available to all people entering work at the age of 18. [Link to NVQs section of CIA site] Modern Apprenticeships - these are also available to 18 year old school leavers. In the chemical industry, these would normally focus on the more technical jobs but also apply to some of the support functions required by the industry. [Link to NTO section of CIA site or some government site?] Full or part-time college or university courses sponsored by your employer - most employers would be willing to offer you some kind of sponsorship through college for BTEC National, Higher National, or similar qualifications in the technical areas. The scope in support services may be more limited. Sponsorship for such programmes will generally take the form of day release and you will be an employee of the company. In some circumstances an employer may be willing to sponsor you through college or university at this stage but will probably insist that your holidays are spent working at their facilities. The types of jobs which are available depend on your qualifications at the time of entering the industry. If you have: Chart in SWF format |
